Percussion and Pops
Organization: Saint Vincent College
Description: The Saint Vincent College Music Department will present “Percussion and Pops,” a performance by the school’s Percussion Ensemble and Concert Band, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15, in the Robert S. Carey Student Center’s Performing Arts Center on the Saint Vincent campus.
The recital will feature the works of Leonard Bernstein, John Philip Sousa, Anthony Cirone and Joe Tompkins, among others. The Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Edward Dunlap, will open with five selections, before the Concert Band, under the direction of Randall Kratofil, performs five selections.
In 2016, with growing interest from marching band students, Concert Band became a class, with the reappearance ending a 60-year absence on campus. The upcoming performance will be its fourth and final one of the 2018-19 school year, following a Homecoming pops concert in October, a Saint Vincent Founder’s Day Christmas concert in November and a Literature and Repertoire concert in February.
The upcoming show will also mark the final performance for seven seniors, including:
Katie Torisky, business management major from Pittsburgh (15243), flute.
Kelly Wieczorkowski, chemistry major from Irwin, clarinet.
Jazmine Kennedy, arts administration major from Pittsburgh (15221), bass clarinet.
Daniel Young, history major from Orwigsburg, baritone saxophone.
Phillip Johnson, mathematics engineering major from Industry, euphonium.
Roman Lauff, criminology, law and society major from McDonald, tuba.
Ryan Schwartz, engineering science major from Indiana, Pennsylvania, percussion.
Admission is free and open to the public.
