Saturday Program-"The 1918 Influenza Pandemic Invades Our Area"
Organization: Latrobe Area Historical Society
Description: Dr. Thomas Soltis of Westmoreland County Community College will present this program on the 1918 flu epidemic. This presentation will summarize the arrival, spread, and impact of the pandemic in our local area.

Beginning with the spring of 1918, there were some local soldiers dying at military bases around the U.S.; by the autumn of that year the disease arrived in Pennsylvania with a vengeance. Its effects were still being felt in the early months of 1919, as the Latrobe Bulletin was still reporting flu-related deaths in January and February 1919.

Location: Latrobe Area Historical Society, 416 Weldon Street, Latrobe
