Lecture by Dr. Elizabeth Lev
Organization: Saint Vincent College
Description: “Catholic Art of the Modern Age: New Images for an Ancient Story” is the title of a lecture to be given by Dr. Elizabeth Lev at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the Fred M. Rogers Center. Admission is free and open to the public, but reservations are required: 724-805-2177.

The lecture is presented in conjunction with the “Seventh Juried Catholic Arts Exhibition” and will examine the perennial themes of Catholic art. Lev notes, “The works of the Catholic Arts Exhibition demonstrate that art can still persuasively communicate ancient truths to the modern Church through the exploration of critical contemporary themes such as fatherhood, universality and religious persecution.”

The exhibition opening reception and prize award ceremony follow the lecture in The Saint Vincent Gallery from 3:30 to 6 p.m. with the exhibition continuing through Sunday, Dec. 2. The Saint Vincent Gallery is located on the third floor of the Robert S. Carey Student Center. Gallery hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and by special appointment. The Gallery is closed on Mondays and November 21-26 for Thanksgiving.

The 2018 Catholic Arts juror Elizabeth Lev, Ph.D., is an American-born art historian who specializes in Christian art and architecture, Baroque painting and sculpture and High Renaissance art. She is a professor of art and architecture for the Italian campuses of Christendom College and Duquesne University, and a licensed guide for the city of Rome and the Vatican Museums. Lev holds a bachelor of arts degree in art history from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in art history from the University of Bologna.

The lecture is sponsored by the Diocese of Greensburg - The Most Rev. Edward C. Malesic, J.C.L., with support from Saint Vincent College - Office of the President, Saint Vincent Archabbey, the Diocese of Covington - The Most Rev. Roger J. Foys, D.D., and Jo Ellen and Alan Yeasted.
