Day of Prayer, Awareness for Human Trafficking
Organization: Saint Vincent College
Description: Saint Vincent College Campus Ministry Human Trafficking Awareness Group and the Greensburg Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) Prayer and Outreach Group to Combat Human Trafficking will sponsor the third annual Day of Prayer and Awareness for Human Trafficking from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Saint Vincent Grove. Dr. Marlene Carson, survivor of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking and founder of the SWITCH National Anti-Trafficking Network, will be the keynote speaker.
Carson is one of Americaís foremost authorities on the subject of human trafficking. While many have a textbook knowledge of the perils faced by teenage girls and young adult women who are forced into prostitution, Carson knows from her own personal experience. At age 15 she became one of the tens of thousands of girls and young adult women who are exploited daily. Through faith in Christ and sound biblical teaching, Carsonís misery became a mission to hurting teen girls and women who are seeking to be free.
In 2008 Carson founded Rahabís Hideaway, a comprehensive residential treatment facility. It is the mission of Rahabís Hideaway to develop appropriate responses to meet the needs of those who have become victims of human trafficking and prostitution including, but not limited to, the development of a model facility that can provide refuge and facilitate recovery.
Carson has more than 25 yearsí experience in marketing and promotions, as well as a track record for strategic planning within organizations resulting in demonstrated growth and profitability. She is currently bringing a skilled team together to develop SWITCH, A National Anti-Human Trafficking Network.
Carson is a native and resident of Columbus, Ohio. Her work has been featured on Katie Couric, Oprah and the CNN Freedom Project.
