Aging and Spirituality: Listening Across Generations
Organization: Saint Vincent College
Description: Saint Vincent College School of Social Sciences, Communication and Education will begin its 16th series of talks on Spirituality and Aging at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Fred. M. Rogers Center on campus. The theme for this spring series is “Listening across Generations” and the topic of the first presentation will be “Talking to Young People about Spirituality.”
“The theme for the spring semester in our popular series grew from suggestions we received from those who have been regular attendees,” explained Dr. Mary Beth Spore, dean of the Saint Vincent College School of Social Sciences, Communication and Education, which sponsors the series. “Over the years, they have asked questions about young people, many basing their interactions on their relationships with grandchildren and neighbors. These questions include: Why don’t young people go to church? Why are young people always on their cell phones? What do young people think about people in my generation? and many others.”
“On the side of the younger generation are many corresponding questions and misconceptions,” Spore added. “I will lead the sessions but will ask Fr. Vernon Holtz, O.S.B., and other faculty members and students to participate in the discussions as well. I will ask both the students and the audience to answer some questions from their point of view. Then we will discuss aspects of the topics under consideration for the day.”
Admission is free and open to the public.
Persons of all ages are welcome to attend and share in the discussion and questions.
