Visiting Writer Series - Toi Derricotte

Description: Saint Vincent College will host award-winning poet and memoirist, Toi Derricotte, as the first reader in its Visiting Writers Series for the spring semester at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, in the Luparello Lecture Hall in the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion on the campus of Saint Vincent College. Admission is free and open to the public.
Derricotte has published five collections of poetry, most recently, The Undertaker’s Daughter (2011).
One of her earlier collections of poems, Tender, won the 1998 Paterson Poetry Prize.
Her literary memoir, The Black Notebooks, published by W.W. Norton in 1997, won the 1998 Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Non-Fiction and was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year.
The Visiting Writers Series has brought many writers of merit to Saint Vincent ever since its founding in 2008, including Daniel Borzutzky, Ben Lerner, Carmen Gimenez Smith and Rick Hilles. The series presents writers from a diverse number of locations from western Pennsylvania and beyond.
