Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Description: Area residents will be able to drop off their household hazadarous waste free of charge from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.
Household substances commonly marked "toxic," "hazardous," or 'dispose according to local waste regulations" will be accepted. Included are: aerosol cans, automative fluids, degreasers, drain cleaners, fertilizers, old gasoline and fuel mixes, insecticides, oil-based paints, lacquers, mineral spirits, pesticides, pool chemicals, metal polishes, old chemistry sets, wood preservatives, fluorescent tubes (includeng the new compact fluorescents), and more.
All oil-based and alkyd paints, thinners, and other solvents will be accepted. Latex (or water-based) paint can be safely disposed at home by drying it. Westmoreland Cleanways discourages patrons from bringing latex paint to the household hazardous waste collection because it can be effectively disposed at no cost by the homeowner. Material that CANNOT be accepted include: explosives/ammunition, radioactive waste, medicines or medical waste, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, or any substance regulated by the US Drug Enforcement Agency.
