Hard to Recycle Collection
Organization: Westmoreland Cleanways
Description: Westmoreland Cleanways is sponsoring a collection event for HARD-TO-RECYCLE ITEMS (tires, vehicle and household batteries, scrap metal, Freon appliances, and electronics) on Saturday, Sept. 21. Danís Tires, Salandroís Refuse Inc., The Appliance Warehouse, and JVS Environmental will collect the materials for recycling or proper disposal.

All computers, monitors, peripheral computer equipment, and televisions collected from consumers and small businesses (less than 50 employees) will be accepted at NO CHARGE. In addition, all other consumer electronics such as stereos, microwaves, VCR/DVD players and Christmas lights, will also be recycled at no charge to the consumer.

Other items to be collected: CFL and fluorescent light tubes (first 4 free; $1 each over 4); Freon-containing appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers: $20 fee per unit; household and automotive batteries, clean scrap metal (no plastic, cloth, or rubber attached), and non-freon containing appliances will be accepted at no charge. The costs for tire disposal are $1.75 per tire for passenger and light truck tires off-rim and $2.75 per tire for passenger and light truck tires on-rim. The cost for heavy truck/ tractor tires will be determined at the collection. Westmoreland Cleanways members receive a discount on tire disposal.

Westmoreland Cleanways offers many opportunities for people to help clean up their environment, such as road adoptions, illegal dump cleanups, recycling opportunities, and educational programs for schools and youth groups.
